DISCUSSION:

Ziemer provided some explanations for the Treasurer’s Report: that the unplanned expenses for the year up to this time were the result of the broken water pipe in the unheated basement room and the computer services that were not in the budget.

Director's Report-In her report, Evans announced that the theme of this summer’s reading program will be “Getting into the Game.” It will begin on June 1 and continue until the middle of July. Gary Metivier, local newscaster, will go to the grade schools on May 16 with Laura to read his book “Willie’s Wagon” and kick off our reading program for 2008. Don Wooten (March 27) and Gunda Davis (April 17) will also appear for local author meetings. The book club continues to grow and will be reading Three Miss Margarets.

Other events in her report were the Easter Centerpieces, May Baskets, the Cemetery Walk and an Afternoon Tea.

Steering Committee report- Larry Stone reported that he has applied 600 pounds of salt to the Library’s sidewalks this winter. He described the broken pipe damage in the formerly unheated basement room and the work and expense involved in removing the water. Two new handicapped-style stools have been installed in the restrooms and the new furnace has also been installed. The duct work was cleaned and an air cleaner was installed as well. Mr. Stone is checking into installing hot air hand dryers in the restrooms to eliminate paper towels. He went on to describe a plan for building a ramp in the back of the building to provide safe access for handicapped patrons.

Guyton reported that he attended the meeting of the MathervilleCentennial Celebration Committee. The centennial in Mathervillewill be held in 2011. The trustees agreed that the Library would continue to be represented as Matherville continues to plan their centennial celebration.

Mc Combs suggested that the board members have a retreat from 9 to noon on Saturday, April 5. The board members agreed.

The Board went into closed session to discuss personnel at 8:32 p.m. and came out of closed session at 9:25 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 9:31p.m.

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be at 7 p.m. April 15, 2008 at the Library.

Respectfully submitted,

Sylvia Swegle, secretary
