Membership Roundup
Sunday, June 26, was the first-ever sponsored
Friends of the Sherrard Public Library Friends
Roundup held on the front lawn of the library.
Opening remarks were presented by State Repre-
sentative, Pat Verschoore, who was also accompa-
nied by his wife, Char. Sue Brockway and Crystal
Dyer, members of
Tyson Foods Com-
munity Relation
team, grilled pork
chop sandwiches and
Tom and Sylvia Swegle and Larry Stone provided
tours of our building. Thank you to all of them
for their help. Your Friends' membership grew by
29 families and every family who joined received a
Sherrard Public Library book bag as a complimen-
tary gift. (It's not too late to join and benefit from
this offer!) The Friends' also raised over $800 in
donations. Despite the heat we had an exciting
afternoon sharing our DREAMS THAT ARE
GROWING AT THE LIBRARY!
Laptop Computers
The Sherrard Public Library has three brand new
Dell laptop computers available for patron use. These
computers will be available for use in the Library.
Because of the Library's convenient wireless connec-
tion, these computers can be used almost anywhere
in the library. There will be an age restriction of 16
years and up. To use a laptop, the library will request
holding the patron's drivers license to help insure se-
curity. The laptops have software including Internet
Explorer, Office, Media Player, and the Gnu Image
Manipulation Program (similar to Photoshop). Pa-
trons are also free to bring their own wireless devices
and use the public wireless network. These laptops
were made possible by a grant from the Community
Foundation of Great River Bend.
Ice Cream Social
The third annual Sherrard Ice Cream Social will be
held Saturday, August 13 from 6-8pm. Friends will
provide maid-rites, hot dogs, and of course ice cream
and assorted desserts. The Quad City Juggling Club
will dazzle us with their dexterity and juggling skills
and Sophia Quaintance will be providing musical
entertainment. There will something for the whole
family to enjoy!! Be sure to bring your sweet tooth.
Bovine Bingo
Purchase your tickets at the Sherrard Public Library
to play Bovine Bingo. This fun event will take place
Saturday, July 9 at 2pm during the Sherrard Fire
Department's Fish Fry. Tickets are $20 each and will
earn you a space on the bovine's grazing grid and a
chance at the $1,000 grand prize and the eight $100
second prizes. Chances of winning a prize is one in
twenty-five.
