Sherrard Bookworm's September Book Discussion
This Bookworm's choice was a mystery that had me en-
grossed immediately. Shay Waco, a stunt woman, is on
her way home with her 11 year old daughter when a truck
deliberately sends her Chevy Tahoe over an embankment.
Because of her professional skills, Shay and her daughter are
able to survive a nearly 60 foot jump through conifer trees
and search for help. They come across a small home only to
find a murdered family.
The plot thickens when surveillance equipment is found in
the home and the murder victims are discovered to be in the
federal witness protection program. Author Farris has a di-
verse cast of good and evil characters living in a small town
infiltrated by a "doomsday" religious cult, drugs, and a miss-
ing deadly bomb. While there is the obligatory love interest,
there is much more space dedicated to the evil acts of men...
and most assuredly wicked women.
The Bookworms were split 50/50 on liking the book or
not. It was not an easy read. The book moves very fast and
makes one work to keep up with the murders, double crosses
and chase scenes. Some characters were stereotypes, but I
found the book to be engrossing and believed the plot and
sub-plots to be resolved at the end. I will read more of the
20+ novels by John Farris.
