LOCAL AUTHOR SERIES
The Midwest Writing Center is, again, joining forces with your Sherrard Library to bring you local authors who will share their books. We are
fortunate to have this interest and dedication, and we thank everyone.

- Sean Leary, Entertainment Editor at the Dispatch and Rock Island Argus, has agreed to share his work and history.
At his young age, Sean has a history of achievements. He has published 16 books, owns an independent publishing company, and stage play
production company, and has been responsible for every phase of a film Your Favorite Film which will be shown at the IMAX later this year.
He has been a finalist in Project Greenlight and won the MTV young filmmakers' award. This is an opportunity for all aspiring students to attend
this evening with Sean Leary to gain perspective in the journalistic and film industry. Everyone is welcome. We encourage all patrons to visit
with our local author and celebrity, Sean Leary, on the 21

September 18
th
at 7:00 p.m. Basil Easter will share his book, Deadly Talent. He says one third of his story is true. The remainder is fiction.
The story takes place in 1964 in his home town area. It centers around a single mother and family. As a young boy Basil understood that being
a single mother and raising boys in 1964 was a hard life. His friend had many talents which he admired and shared in his book. Basil lived in
southern Missouri until 1968 when he moved to Milan. He and his wife Treva have lived in Matherville since 1996. They own the store and
other businesses in the area. Join us on the 18
th
to hear a local author from our library district share his story.
THANK YOUS
Thank you, Phyllis Reed, for tending the gardens, keeping them pristine. Library staff and patrons appreciate all you do. It's a joy to approach
the front door and not walk through weeds or spent blooms! Thanks, Phyllis.
A huge thank you to Larry Stone for his continued care for our building. Larry empties water from wading pools that are filled when all the
heavy rain water leaks through the roof. Without his assistance our precious collection would be soaked. Thank you, also, Larry, for cementing
blocks over the lower level windows on the east entry. Several panes have been destroyed and to prevent any entry into our building, filling in the
broken windows with blocks was the most logical and secure answer. This has been an on-going project that will one day be entry gardens.
Thank you Wayne McCombs and Larry for fertilizing the lot.
Thank you to Jean DeMink and family for preparing the books for the book sale.
Ken White, Duane White, Mary Ann White, Susan Vaughn and Lee Ann Fildes treated Sherrard Public Library gardeners to our third annual
"Container Gardening" event on May 23rd. Everyone enjoyed an evening of flowers, fun and food. Duane treated all gardeners to delicious
pizza and soda. Twelve ladies and gentlemen from the library family selected items from the Corn Crib's nursery and filled their containers with
beautiful flowers and plants. Thank you, Susan, and Lee Ann for your hard work organizing and preparing the potting areas for us. We are all
enjoying the summer filled with blooms of every color.
PETE GUYTON RETIRES FROM THE LIBRARY BOARD
May 20
th
marked Pete's board retirement of many years as Library Board Trustee. While we will miss Pete's caring nature, we at the Sherrard
Library understand Pete's desire to rest a little. The Board and staff celebrated the occasion with the usual cake and refreshments. Pete also
received a John Deere Logo blast jacket, cap and book. Pete has donated Legendary John Deere Tractors to the Sherrard Public Library
collection. His career with John Deere and love of the tractor industry brought the evening full circle.
Best wishes to you, Pete, Shirley and your family. Thank You for your many years of service as Library Trustee.
