DD Dunn Coming to Sherrard!
Sherrard Public Library is proud to announce that local author and former Sherrardian will
be present at the Library, Thursday, January 19 for book signing. D D Dunn has written two
books on the humorous side of living a country bumkin life in Sherrard. Both books will be
for sale that evening. D D will start off with a short presentation "Wasn't that funny when it
happened...but it sure seems funny now!" Books will be $10 each. Besides her first book
Binder Twine `n Bandaids, she will also be bringing her newly published Cobwebs, Critters
`n Coveralls. Come join the merriment January 19 and meet Sherrardian D D Dunn. D D
will start her presentation with "Wasn't that Funny to Begin With" at 5:30pm. Book signing
and hilarity will be at 6pm. Come and reminisce the old days with D D!
Katrina School Supplies
Sherrard participated in the "Fill Up the Bus" spon-
sored by WQAD TV, Channel 8 in which school
supplies were collected for the Hurricane Katrina
children. Mildred Schurr, Phyllis Reed, and Larry
Stone were co-chairs of the event. Sherrard partici-
pants were Sherrard School Unit 200, area church-
es, and the friends and patrons of the Sherrard
Public Library. The State of Illinois donated the bus.
Thank you to all who donated items and money.

Winter 2006
Art Series
Our beloved friend Tom Chouteau will teach a
series of three classes for the Sherrard Library
patrons this winter/spring. Saturday, February 25,
at 9:30am, is T-shirt painting. In this class Tom will
show simple techniques for creating your own
personalized T-shirt. This creative class is for all
ages. Each participant must bring their own white
100% cotton T-shirt. The second class in this series
is a Banner Workshop, Saturday, March 25, at 9:
30am. In this class you will make a banner for
your own front door or window. Materials will be
provided. The third class in this series is a
Kaleidoscope class, Saturday, April 24, at 9:30am
where each participant will create a simple
kaleidoscope. This class is for ages 10 and up.
There will be a $5 class charge for each participant
in each class. Payment is due with registration and
is required due to limited class size. If you have
any questions regarding these art classes feel free
to call your Library.
Birding Classes
Dave Searle of the Quad City
Botanical Center will offer a series
of three classes on birding at your
Library. Dave grew up on a farm
and has always had an interest in
natural habitat and birds. Thursday,
February 16 at 7-8:30pm -
Making Bluebird Houses. (Kits will be provided.)
Dave will share information on bluebirds and the do's
and don'ts of attracting bluebirds.
Thursday, March 16, 7-8:30pm - Attracting Birds to
Your Garden. Dave will teach what flowers, shrubs,
trees, and plants are attracting to particular birds.
Thursday April 20, 7-8:30pm - Identifying Birds. This
last class in the series will teach what field marks to
look for, and recognizing calls in identifying birds.
There will be a video to watch along with handouts.
The charge for these three classes is $25 which
includes the kit for the bluebird class. Payment is due
at sign up. Class size is limited to 10 so don't hesitate
and call your Library today.
Winter Community Blood Drive
The Sherrard Community Winter Blood Drive will be
Tuesday, January 31, 2005 from 4-7pm. Our July
drive was such a success that our community has been
asked to help fill a shortage of blood this winter. Call
Clint at 593-2658 to make a reservation. If you can-
not commit to a specific time on that day, walk-ins are
accepted, but reservations will help keep the wait to a
minimum.
