Fantastic Fall Events...
Halloween
The Friends' sponsored a Halloween party and fall hog roast on a crisp evening, October 27
th
.
.
The event was a wild success. There was some-
thing for everyone...delicious food, children's activities, costume parade and contest, live music, dancing, and, of course, an opportunity to chat
with friends and neighbors. Over two hundred twenty-five enjoyed homemade desserts, baked beans, apple sauce, beverages and the perfectly
roasted hog which Wayne and Anna Viager donated and prepared. Partygoers who came after the hog was devoured had hot dogs. Your gener-
ous donations covered the costs of the evening and, also, added to our treasury.
Thank you to those who in your special ways made the party so successful. Cookie Dean chaired the event. Donna Krebsbach, Jean DeMink,
Phyllis Reed, Theresa Johnson, Paula Rosenthal, Sean Graff, and Stefanie Johnson organized the event and worked all evening. Sybil McCombs
loaned the fun Halloween decorations Larry and Barb Stone, Wayne and Sybil McCombs, Chris DeMink, Luke DeMink, Mildred Schurr, and
Phyllis Reed encircled the pavilion with plastic, moved and decorated tables. Sylvia Swegle, Phyllis Reed and assistants worked to make certain
everyone got fed. Mayor Terry Ayers, Cindy Ayers, and Paula and Rich Rathjudged the costumes. Dave and Dave's Tap assisted in the selling of
raffle tickets. A special thank you to everyone who made desserts. Thank you to everyone who stayed to take down and clean up.
A very, very special Thank You to Wayne and Anna Viager who donated the pig and with their crew roasted it to perfection. Friends' have
already discussed Halloween 2008, which will include an increase of roasted hog and raffle prizes.
Mark your calendars the 2008 Halloween event will be Saturday, October 25.
Christmas Open House
The first snow storm of the season occurred on December 1
st
, requiring the Friends' open house and Tree Auction be cancelled. Staff and
volunteers were disappointed though determined to share the creativity and beauty of all the Christmas trees with our Library family and
community.
Your community room came alive. Christmas red poinsettia centerpieces donated by Barb and Larry Stone complimented the sparkling trees.
Bidders stopped by all week to check on and `up' their bids. The Open House as rescheduled was enjoyed by over 100 who came throughout
the day on Dec. 8
th
. Your Sherrard Library Open House was a tremendous success.
A very special thank you to Cookie Dean, Arlet Roberts, Donna Krebsbach, Larry and Barb Stone, Wayne and Sybil McCombs who set up,
and worked throughout the day, Denny Dean who took pictures of children with Santa. Thank you to Stefanie Johnson for creating such fun
activities for the children. Have you seen all the hands that decorate our bulletin board Christmas tree? Thank you everyone who brought
cookies to share.
A very special Thank You to everyone who shared their time and talent creating 39 wonderful trees.
Congratulations to category winners:
